There are four great museums in the Valley that our family loves!
The first is in Lone Pine. (On your left, or west, as you come in to town.) The Beverly and Jim Rogers Film History Museum Read all about them at: www.lonepinefilmhistorymuseum.org
The second is in Independence. (Watch for signs on the left.) The Eastern California Museum Lots of info on latest exhibits at: www.independence-ca.com/eastern-california-museum.shtml
The third museum on your drive up will be Manzanar, a Japanese internment camp from WWII. This museum is a world class facility complete with two small theaters and lots of hands on stuff for the kids. It is run by the National Park Service and you really must visit! It is located about five miles North of Independence to the West. I can't find an NPS website for Manzanar but this site has lots of interesting information.: www.owensvalleyhistory.com/manzanar6/page17d.html
The final museum is right here in Bishop. Laws Railroad Museum and Historical Site This museum is especially fun for Train Enthusiasts as there is the old Slim Princess (a narrow gauge engine) on displaythat you can climb on and ring the bell. All things old find their way to Laws so there are plenty of cool things to see. They are located a couple miles out of town on Hwy 6. Follow the signs. They do not appear to have a website either but their phone number is 760-873-5950. Call for their hours and ask when Good Ol' Days will be this year. A party not to be missed! |
